- Enthält in der "Collector's Edition" als Boni die Vollversionen von "Ultimate Doom" und "Doom II" (beide Umsetzungen bieten Split-Screen-Modi für bis zu vier Teilnehmer, kooperativ und Deathmatch)
Nach dem entsprechenden Firmware-Update auch auf der Xbox 360 spielbar. (Nur im 50Hz Modus) |

Erschienen am 3. August 2004 (Deutschland-Release war 9 Tage später), und damit fast zehn Jahre nach dem Vorgänger. "Doom 3" bietet das aus den alten Teilen bekannte Run-and-Gun-Gameplay, selbstverständlich technisch auf dem neusten Stand.
Speziell für das Spiel stellte id Software seine seit "Quake 1" verwendete Programmiersprache von C auf C++ um; die Grafik basiert somit auf einer völlig neu entwickelten Engine und stellte beim Erscheinen die absolute Speerspitze des Machbaren dar. Unter anderem ermöglichte die neue Technik die Echtzeitberechnung sämtlicher Licht- und Schattendarstellungen sowie die Darstellung von Figuren aus über 1 Million Polygonen. Die Engine fand später auch bei "Quake 4" Verwendung.
